How Does A CO2 Laser Marking Machine Engrave On Wood?

Oct 27, 2021

At present, laser marking machines are divided into semiconductor laser marking machines, CO2 laser marking machines, fiber laser marking machines, etc. according to the laser source. They have different marking effects for different marking materials. Generally speaking, semiconductor and fiber laser marking machines are suitable for marking materials such as metals and plastics. CO2 lasers are mainly aimed at non-metallic materials, such as acrylic, transparent plastics, ceramics, glass, etc.

Today, let's talk about how laser marking machines engrave and process wood. 10W to 100W is fine if it's just simply marked or carved into the wood. If you want to do a large format and thickness graphic, you should choose a high power CO2, preferably 2000W.

Carving on plywood is not much different than carving on wood, but be careful. The engraving depth should not be too deep. The edges of the cut plywood will also turn black like the wood. It depends on which wood the plywood is made of.

Wood is by far the most commonly used material for laser processing and is easy to engrave and cut. Light-colored woods, such as birch, cherry, or maple, are easily gasified by the laser, so compared to proper engraving. Each wood has its own characteristics. Some are denser, like hardwoods. When engraving or cutting, a higher laser power should be used. Before we come up with carving unfamiliar woods, we should discuss carving characteristics first.
