How To Protect The Laser When Using It in Summer?

May 31, 2023

How to take laser protection measures when lasers in summer?

We will answer you from four aspects: water disaster prevention, fire prevention, condensation prevention and lightning protection!

01 Flood Prevention

In order to avoid your property loss, you must pay attention to the waterproof work of high-value equipment during typhoon days, and try to ensure that the laser does not soak in water. Close the equipment under the cover to reduce losses.

small laser
1. Check the placement of the laser, if it is a small laser like the following picture:

The laser can be lifted up and covered with a waterproof cloth. During the whole process, pay attention to protect the yellow optical fiber cable from bending and twisting in all directions.

large laser

2. If it is a larger laser like the one shown below:

The laser can be elevated and covered with a waterproof cloth. During the whole process, pay attention to protect the yellow optical fiber cable from bending and twisting in all directions. At the same time, pay attention to fasten the processing head with a waterproof cloth cover from bottom to top, and use adhesive tape to prevent water penetration as much as possible, so as to reduce losses.

No matter what kind of protection is done, serious stagnant water may still penetrate into the laser and processing head, causing electrical and optical pollution. At this time, the after-sales service engineer must be notified to assist in cleaning and maintenance on site, and do not try to power on by yourself. , please contact the equipment manufacturer or our after-sales engineer for help as soon as possible!

02 Fire Prevention

1. When actually using the laser cutting machine, beware of fire: the operator must not place flammable materials where the laser beam may be irradiated. If the laser beam is irradiated on the flammable material, it will cause a fire.
2. Be careful not to pile up any sundries on the laser.

03 Prevent Condensation

Recently, summer is coming, and the humidity in some areas has reached more than 80%. Frequent rainfall and humid environment lead to condensation inside the laser, which poses a safety hazard to the laser and even reduces the performance of the laser.

Measures To Avoid Condensation

1. Avoid dew condensation inside and outside the laser without its own air conditioner

(The damage to the laser caused by condensation in the internal environment is not covered by the normal warranty of the laser)

If you use a laser that does not have its own air conditioner and is exposed to the working environment, once you see condensation on the laser shell, it means that the internal environment has condensed. The work must be stopped immediately and the working environment of the laser should be improved immediately. The solution is: configure an independent air-conditioned room for the laser.

Note: The temperature of laser cooling water must be set above the dew point temperature of the most severe operating environment.

2. Avoid dew condensation inside and outside the laser with its own air conditioner

(Lasers with self-contained air conditioners may still cause condensation in the internal environment)

(1) When the ambient temperature is lower than 38°C, the industrial air conditioner can maintain the safety of the environment inside the laser, but there may be condensation on the surface of the laser shell. It is safe if the condensation does not form flowing water drops. If there are a large number of flowing water drops and there are obvious water spots on the ground around the laser, a safe and non-condensing working environment must be established for the air-conditioned laser.

(2) When the ambient temperature is higher than 38°C, the cooling capacity of the industrial air conditioner is not enough to maintain the safety of the laser's internal environment, and condensation will still occur in the internal environment. Over time, the external environment will also follow the condensation. Therefore, there should be no obvious heat sources around the laser, and the hot air outlet of the water cooler should not face the laser.

Note: In order to eliminate the risk of condensation in the laser environment, it is recommended to configure an independent air-conditioned room for the laser.

3. Avoid dew condensation inside the processing head

(When the season changes or the temperature of the day changes greatly, if the processing is abnormal, you can check whether there is condensation in the processing head)

Condensation can cause serious damage to optical lenses:

(1) The cooling temperature is lower than the ambient dew point temperature, which will cause condensation on the inner wall of the processing head and optical lenses.

(2) The use of auxiliary gas whose temperature is lower than the ambient dew point will cause rapid dew condensation on the optical lens.

It is recommended to add an evaporator between the gas source and the processing head to keep the gas temperature close to the ambient temperature and reduce the risk of condensation.

4. Ventilate the laser

In order to avoid damage to the laser caused by condensed water, dry compressed air needs to be introduced through the CDA interface of the laser. The latest models of Raycus 3000S, 4000S, and 6000S are equipped with CDA filter components as standard. Breathe! "

5. Pay attention to the switch sequence

Summer is the season with high occurrence of laser failures. The statistical results show that most of the laser failures are closely related to the user's operation sequence and equipment operating environment. When the ambient temperature is higher than 25°C in summer, please remind the customer to switch on and off in the following order:

Start-up sequence: first turn on the main power supply of the laser (the laser does not emit light), so that the air conditioner starts to work first for cooling;

When the internal temperature of the laser drops to about 25°C (about half an hour), turn on the water cooler and start the laser to emit light.

Shutdown sequence: Please turn off the water cooler first, and then turn off the laser switch. (Do not show that the laser has been shut down and the water cooler is still running)

04 Prevent Lightning Strikes

In areas where thunderstorms occur frequently, it is necessary to prevent lightning from damaging the laser.

1. If conditions permit, stop the laser and cut off the power supply in thunderstorm weather;

2. If you need to work in thunderstorm weather, you need to ensure that the grounding of the plant meets the national standards. It is strictly forbidden to use iron rods or steel beams instead of grounding.
